When Might a Tooth Need Root Canal Treatment?
Root canal treatment may be considered when the soft tissue inside a tooth is inflamed or infected, but symptoms alone cannot confirm the diagnosis.
Possible warning signs
Persistent pain, prolonged sensitivity, pain on biting, swelling, a gum pimple or tooth darkening can be associated with deeper tooth problems.
Sometimes there is little pain
Some affected teeth cause mild or no symptoms and are noticed during examination or imaging.
Seek an assessment
Early assessment can clarify whether the tooth needs root canal treatment, another form of care, or monitoring.
